Sunday–We Need Rain

Oh LORD we need rain.

This has been one of the hottest summers on record.  Fields, cattle, bees, and folks in the South are all parched.  Oh LORD we need rain.

Our thermometer is pegged at 94 degrees, and it is September in Michigan.  Oh LORD we need rain.

In our front lawn, all the grass has died, and the weeds are taking over.  Oh LORD we need rain.

My tomatoes and herbs look straggly and limp.  Oh LORD we need rain.

My potted plants are dead and the soil in the planter is cracked.  Oh LORD we need rain.

This is a description of my life.  Oh LORD i need rain.

“. . .My soul thirsteth for THEE, my flesh longeth for THEE in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;  to see THY power and THY glory, so as I have seen THEE in the sanctuary.”  Psalm 63:1-2

This summer I went, I did, I visited, I tasted, I played, I performed, I shopped, I traveled, I enjoyed, I gave, . . .but I am parched.  Oh LORD, I need rain.

“Ho, every on that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, . . .come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live. . .”  Isaiah 55:1,3

“I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather. . .”  Deuteronomy 11:14

O LORD send that rain.

“. . .and HE shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain . . .”  Hosea 6:3

Let it rain.

“HE shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.”  Psalm 72:6

Let it pour.

“. . .Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain. . .and there was a great rain.”  I Kings 18:41, 45

And after the rain.

“. . .The ROCK of Israel. . .and HE shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after the rain.”  II Samuel 23:4

And her soul was quenched,
