The shopping season is upon us. Good deals are all around us. I love going to the mall (when I am not in a hurry). I love the Christmas carols, the decorated windows, I love the sales, and I love the Cafe Court in the middle–Auntie Anne’s soft pretzels (with cinnamon), Godiva’s chocolate covered strawberries, Starbuck’s pumpkin spice latte, and Cinnabon’s bites. In general, shopping and I get along really well. We have had an on-going relationship since my sister showed me how to order out of the Sear’s catalog back in fourth grade. I’m in this relationship for the long-term. Shopping and I like to spend a lot of time together. There is just one problem. My friend Budget doesn’t like my friend Shopping. They have opposing values, political parties, and views on life. Every-once-in-a-while they get along. And when that happens we all do a Happy Dance.
Let’s shop. Outfit #2 of the “6 for $60” Campaign.
First off, get out that jean skirt or corduroy or twill skirt you have in your closet.
This one is a find at QVC for $11.86. Now this price tag doesn’t count toward the total, as I mentioned that everyone needed a good jean basic (skirt or jeans) and Knee-high real leather boots.
Now let’s start layering.
I know I went off on the whole brown thing. Grey-brown, muddy-brown, variegated brown, brown-grey, and muddled brown. BUT, brown is a neutral and can serve as a great base. We will add two layers–a cotton T-shirt and a sweater vest over the top.
First the T-shirt. Both are available at Macy’s online.
Pima Cotton T-shirt ($19.98) Pima Cotton is the Mercedes-Benz of cotton. It is ultra soft and wonderful.
“Pima cotton, also called extra long staple (ELS), is a type of cotton grown primarily in Peru, the southwestern United States and Australia. It is considered to be one of the superior blends of cotton and is extremely durable and absorbent. This type of cotton is named after the Pima, a group of American Indians who first cultivated the plant in the U.S., but the cotton’s origins are its cultivation in Peru.” (from Wise Geek)
This cotton T-shirt is made by Charter Club and is available at Macy’s . It is considered an “everyday value” and isn’t at a reduced price of $19.98.
($14.98) Style & Co. This T-shirt is slightly cheaper at about $15. You can decide if you want the pima cotton one for an additional $5.00.
Charter Club Sweater vest here. Sale ends 11/26 ($34.99) That would be today. Sorry. However. Before you give up, Macy’s has excellent sales and coupons. Just do a Google search. I love sweaters that go all the way to my hips because my being cold doesn’t stop at my waist.
Now here is the fun part. Wild Socks!
These cashmere socks are from Sahalie–a marvelous catalog. Here are the details. $19.98.
- Knee high length sock.
- Jersey knit, random striped pattern.
- Made from a nylon/wool/viscose/cashmere/angora blend yarn.
- Shaped heel and toe.
- Wide ribbed top keeps socks in place.
- Extra support knit into arch.
- Made in USA of imported yarn.
How add your leather boots, and you have an outfit. Cotton (non-pima) T-shirt $15. Sweater vest is $35. Wild-and-crazy sock are $20. For a total of $70. Ooops. A little over. Add in a Macy’s coupon for 25% off your order (ends on the 30th). And a Sahalie coupon for 26% off and no minimum amount and that brings the socks down to a little under $15.00 and the sweater vest and T-shirt down 25% each to about $26 and $12. Now our total is about $53!!! So let’s add a scarf!
I like this one from Wal-Mart, but it is $25.50 on sale.
Or this one from Sierra Trading Company for $15.96. It is made of “whisper wool” and comes is green, brown, red, and blue. Here are the details.
A whisper of loveliness for your neckline, Asian Eye’s Whisper wool ombre scarf has a permanently scrunched texture that lends itself to fanciful knotting at the ends.
- A wearable art company specializing in scarves and hats, Asian Eye revitalized the traditional Indian textile industry by employing artisans who earn a living through their craft
- Each design is unique and will never be mass produced
- Fabric is a superlight, semi-sheer wool
- Made in China
And finally in our $7 price range a light-weight, 100% crinkle cotton scarf from Sierra Trading Company. Available in blue or orange for $7.16.
So here is the outfit:
I like Walmart’s scarf better, though.
So here is Take Two on “6 under $60.
